Wentworth Puzzles
The project involved relocation of the existing Wentworth industrial process and machines from their old facility to a new leased industrial building in Swindon. Vida firstly surveyed the existing facility and processes and then consequently designed M&E services for the full M&E fit-out including infrastructure upgrade, new cooling and ventilation.
Hinkley Point A - RCA Facilities
We are undertaking the Stage 4 M&E design for a significantly enhanced facility within the Radiation Controlled Area at Hinkley Point A. This project involves the creation of bespoke changing rooms, incorporating specialised HVAC systems, to facilitate the safe preparation and egress of decommissioning personnel from the reactor area.
EfW Facility
Vida provided design support for M&E and sustainability for the development of an ‘energy from waste’ plant to generate 25MW of electricity of which 3MWe is for process use and 22MWe for export to the Grid, based on a two stage fluidised bed combustion process (gasification). Glencoyne Square
Vida are working on the Glencoyne Square development in Southmead, Bristol, a major community-led housing initiative by the Southmead Development Trust. The project features 187 flats, integrated community and business spaces, and a new library. To achieve high energy efficiency, exhaust air heat pumps are being implemented within each flat.
CBRE Fitout
Vida designed the M&E systems required to support CBRE's office fit-out in Bristol's EQ building. Integrating base build VAV and VRF systems, we coordinated closely with interior design to ensure a cohesive and comfortable workspace. We also collaborated with CBRE's Digital & Technology team for compliant structured cabling, access control, and security designs and complied with relevant CBRE and Landlord design guides.
Rownham House Bristol
Rownham House is a development project in Leigh Woods, Bristol, involving the demolition of a fire-damaged dwelling and the construction of a new family home with a leisure annexe and outdoor pool. Vida are providing MEP an sutaianbility consultancy services, while Wotton Donoghue Architects are responsible for the architectural design.
151 Strand
Vida developed M&E designs and sustainability for complete demolition of the existing building and replacement with a new boutique apart-hotel comprising of eight short stay suite hotel rooms with separate living and bedroom spaces, with office workspace at the lower ground and ground levels.
UKRI 3rd Floor R4 Building
Vida designed the M&E systems for a cutting-edge electronics lab and office space for the ISIS Neutron and Muon source division at Harwell's R4 building. We integrated with base build VAV systems and upgraded heating/cooling where necessary, adhering to STFC design guidance.
Honeygar Farm (to Planning)
For the Somerset Wildlife Trust's Honeygar Farm redevelopment, Vida Design is conducting MEP and sustainability feasibility studies with a view to develop the project to planning and subsequently stage 4 design. This project, focused on lowland peatland restoration, includes assessments for ASHP/GSHP systems, considering borehole viability and acoustic impacts. Electrical feasibility investigates PV and wind integration, battery storage and advanced distribution. Public health systems are also under review. The project targets best practice green infrastructure and will support peatland restoration research.
Healthcare Reports: Dudley
Vida surveyed the critical infrastructure at 3 hospitals in Dudley. Services included HV transformers, steam boilers and distribution and medical gasses. The aim was to review the plant performance against both the contractual arrangement in place and with industry best practise and produce comprehensive reports.
WASE, City Business Park
Vida completed the detailed M&E design for WASE, a Bristol-based company specialising in electro-methanogenic anaerobic digestion technology. Our designs created improved office and workshop spaces, requiring complex ventilation and HVAC integration within space constraints and all prioritising all-electric sustainability.
Yeo Valley - Burrington Combe Site
Vida have been appointed to act as M&E and sustainability consultants for this exciting tourism focused redevelopment which seeks to bring a new lease of life back into the Burrington Combe at the site of the former Burrington Inn for Yeo Valley. The scheme will include farm shop, cafe, bikepark centre, retail and holiday lodges.
Holmleigh Pack School - Servery
Vida's designs for this kitchen refurbishment needed to be installed in the tight school summer holidays and alongside live sitewide services. Vida worked alongside the contractors to develop designs alongside site measurements on existing systems - guaranteeing the new systems would be seamlessly integrated.
Royal Mail Distribution Centre, Filton
Vida produced a schedule of dilapidations for M&E systems at the 200,000 sq.ft. Royal Mail Distribution Centre. We frequently work alongside building surveyors to input to professional services reports which is symbiotic with the knowledge we have and use for our design work.
Cotham School - Flood Lighting
Vida carried out a nighttime lighting assessment for the new sport pitches flood lighting and interrogate the effects of the lighting emitted from the proposed lighting scheme for planning.
Unison Croyde Bay Village PVs
Vida acted as the M&E consultant, providing expertise on the PV system installation and its integration into the site’s power supply. This included conducting a comprehensive site survey of the holiday park to assess the infrastructure and identify the most economical and future-proof solution for connecting the new PV system to the existing utility infrastructure.
Lighthouse
Vida have been appointed to provide designs for the failing systems on this large residential project in Guernsey. The site includes extensive battery storage, ASHP heating, cooling and hot water, a swimming pool and spa.
Orange Court, Newton Abbot
Acting as MEP and sustainability consultants on this mixed-use development in the centre of Newton Abbott. The development includes 38 residential apartments and commercial spaces on the ground floor. This project aims to revitalise a site that has been derelict for decades, providing much-needed housing and commercial space to boost the local economy and community.
Old Hall, Cowbridge
As part of the design team led by Initiate Architecture, Vida have carried out a condition survey of The Old Hall, Cowbridge and produced a feasibility study. The Old Hall is a Grade 2 listed building on Cowbridge High Street, located within the Cowbridge Conservation Area, designated as a County Treasure. It is currently used for community purposes alongside adult education classes.
Grundon Waste Management
Full refurbishment of a three-storey office block within the existing industrial building which will host a new incinerator for medical waste. The new office will be fully electric and mechanically ventilated.
UWE SAP5 – 400 beds Passivhaus Scheme
This new-build passive house student accommodation scheme at UWE's Frenchay campus, focusing on regulatory changes, design improvements, and technology advancements.
New Welcome Building for National Collection Centre at the Science and Innovation Park
The building features welcome visitor area with seating, main site security control room and associated areas. The lighting scheme includes architectural lighting to the visitor entrance area. The scheme includes critical services including diesel back up and UPS. Fuel cell was considered during the project however was not feasible.
RAU Heat Network
We successfully helped RAU with their bid for HNES funding. As part of the funding we also then carried out the heating network optimisation study identifying a number of measures which could be covered by the funding.
Home Gardens (Planning)
The Home Gardens development is a new build residential scheme located at the top of Whiteladies Road in Bristol. The project involves the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of two new apartment blocks with a total of 60 apartments and office space. Vida provided mechanical, electrical, public health engineering, and sustainability services for the project.
Sheffield Carribean Sports Club
This project focuses on the development of a new building for the Sheffield Caribbean Sports Club, aimed at significantly enhancing the club's facilities and its capacity to serve the local community. Driven by the club's dedication to promoting inclusivity and expanding sports opportunities, the new building will address the limitations of the existing facilities. Vida delivered comprehensive mechanical, electrical, public health engineering, and sustainability services for the project.
Osterly Cricket Club
Following the destruction of their clubhouse by fire, this project focuses on the design and construction of new sports facilities for the Osterly Cricket Club. The development aims to replace and significantly improve upon the lost facilities, creating a modern and inclusive space to support the club's activities and strengthen its connection with the local community. Vida provided comprehensive mechanical, electrical, public health engineering, and sustainability services for the project, ensuring a resilient and sustainable new building.
Kliklok International Ltd
We conducted a comprehensive ESOS Phase 3 assessment for Kliklok, analysing energy consumption across their buildings, industrial processes, and transport activities. Our findings identified several cost-effective energy-saving opportunities, which, when implemented, will lead to significant reductions in energy consumption, cost savings, and improved sustainability.
56-62 New Cross Road, Lewisham
The project at 56-62 New Cross Road in Lewisham involves the redevelopment of the existing site to include new religious and community facilities, as well as residential apartments. The scheme proposes religious and community facilities, upgrading the existing church on the site and eight floors of apartments above. Vida have provided wind analysis for the project. The wind analysis report assesses the microclimate and pedestrian comfort criteria to ensure safe and comfortable conditions around the development. The project aims to enhance the site's functionality and provide improved spaces for both community and residential use.
Weston Manor Hotel
M&E design services for an extension to the dining room of the existing listed hotel alongside a new pavilion building and a large extension on an existing cottage to form a new spa. The services need to be sympathetic to both the listed nature of the existing buildings and the green belt setting.
DfE Exeter Math
This student accommodation refurbishment project in Exeter is benchmarking itself against new build Part L standards where ever possibble. The designs include exhaust air heat pumps to provide the majority of the space heating only topped up with local electric heaters.
Ganymede – Stage 4
Vida have been appointed as MEP and sustainability engineers by Taunton School to develop the design information for the proposed new on-site self-contained Boarding Building. The Boarding Building will be heated using direct electric heaters with local smart controls, including presence detection in bedrooms. The building will be highly insulated with triple glazing, which supports the first passive principles of being lean.
Costain, Worle
Vida completed the M&E designs for a Landlord, to allow for reconfiguration of their existing office and workshop space. This included the decommissioning and reprovision of 3no. commercial air to water heat pumps, new ventilation designs, new electrical designs, and new domestic services designs.
Paul's Place - Stage 3
This Social Club in Yate is being refurbished to provide the base for Paul's Place - a charity that enhances life for the physically disabled. Vida developed D&B performance design and then oversaw the construction.
Blaisdon Hall
Full restoration and conversion of a former 19th Century country house to a high end retirement home. The building will include 26 new rental accommodation units, with a full range of supporting communal facilities and 24-hour staffing.
Imperial Court - Power Upgrade
Full refurbishment of an existing office building. Vida developed electrical infrastructure upgrade into the existing office building to cater for significant load increase to accommodate the new tenant's high density computer loads.
La Jaoniere Guernsey Design 2-4
This extensive domestic refurbishment has been developed by Vida in accordance with the Client's specific preferences. We have worked closely with the client to understand their expected usage of the property and have their for been able to make clear recommendations regarding PV, incoming power supplies, ASHPs and MVHR systems.
Methodist Building, Totterdown
Vida conducted a comprehensive heating review for the Methodist Church in Totterdown, finding the existing gas-fired boiler system inefficient and at the end of its economic life. Various heating options were explored, with a detailed review of infrared heating.
Sherborne House
Vida worked with Sherborne House Trust as part of the transformation of Sherborne House into an accessible events and art exhibition venue. Featuring a café and restaurant, the building boasts an additional flexible office, artists' studio, and workshop space whilst the addition of a contemporary multifunction pavilion.
Vassall Centre, Bristol
This mixed-use development in Bristol provides housing for older people, specialist supported housing for adults with learning difficulties, workspace for charities and community spaces. The project aims to achieve Passivhaus classic and net-zero operation.
Baily's Night Lighting Assessment
VIDA designed and carried out assessment of the new artificial lighting emitted from the fully revamped Baily's buildings development on the adjacent external environment, ecology and extensive bat corridors.
St James Piccadilly
Vida is proud to be working on the Wren Project, a £20 million comprehensive restoration and rejuvenation vision for St James’s Church Piccadilly. The project involves refurbishment of grade I listed luminaires together with new LED sources. Huge part of the project is co-ordination of services routes to ensure no visibility of services and no impact to the original building structure.
DfE (General)
VIDA has been appointed as the Technical Advisor for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) and sustainability for the Department for Education (DFE). VIDA is working on numerous projects across primary, secondary, and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) schools. The focus is on ensuring that these educational facilities are designed and built with the highest standards of sustainability and efficiency. By integrating innovative MEP solutions, VIDA aims to create safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly learning environments that support the well-being and development of students and staff alike.
B2 Heartlands, Daventry
99,500 sq ft. of full refurbishment works to both warehouse and office areas. The scheme will achieve BREEAM Excellent and EPC rating A.
Building 3000 Hillswood Business Park
Vida Design delivered the stage 4 design for the MEP refurbishment of Building 3000 at Hillswood Business Park, Chertsey, upgrading all mechanical, electrical, and public health systems to modern standards. This included replacing heating, cooling, ventilation, controls, electrical distribution, and fire alarm systems.
Irwin Lodge
Vida developed mechanical and electrical designs for a residential property in Guernsey. The project includes large energy storage in batteries to overcome grid shortages, diesel backup, and a comprehensive photovoltaic system integrated into the cliff.
Isles of Scilly - Review
The Isles of Scilly Cultural Centre and Museum project aims to regenerate the Town Hall on St Mary's by restoring the building and adding extensions. The new facility will be fully accessible and feature spaces for live performances, theatre, community events, and a café with panoramic views over Porthcressa beach.
Brunswick Wharf, Bideford
The Brunswick Wharf development in Bideford, Devon, is an exciting project aimed at revitalising the waterfront area. It includes a mix of residential and commercial spaces, featuring 96 apartments, design studios, a restaurant, boutique retail units, and a public square with a riverside walk. Vida are providing mechanical, electrical, public health engineering, and sustainability services for the project.
Longmynd Hotel
This project involved the design and implementation of replacement heating and hot water systems, alongside a refurbishment of kitchen services, for the Longmynd House Hotel. Situated in Church Stretton, Shropshire, the Grade II listed hotel comprises 51 beds. To ensure minimal disruption, Vida developed a phased installation strategy, enabling the hotel to maintain continuous operation throughout the process.
Pivot + Mark – 5th Floor
Vida's engineers worked on the Cat A design of the entire building at a previous company, and were engaged as Vida to produce dilapidations reports for the 5th floor fitout, allowing us to see the full lifecycle of the refurbishment, occupation and subsequent reinstatement to Cat A.
Bowland Stone
Vida have worked closely with a paving slab production company to relocate and consolidate their existing production facilities. The site is extensively futureproofed with detailed knowledge of both the process and the Clients ability to adapt being applied to the designs.
Plas Gunter (up to stage 3)
The GradeII listed Plas Gunter Mansion in Abergavenny is proposed for a full refurbishment and extension. We have developed designs alongside the Clients business plan as long term financial viability is crucial to the success of the project.
Colebrook Glass House
Vida undertook a detailed sustainability review considering how best to service this ornate glasshouse. The review considered the practicality and operational cost of water-source heat pumps and Canadian well ventilation systems.
Stables at HYDP Barracks - Ventilation Feasibility
Vida have completed a full costed condition and feasibility study of the ventilation and electrical services at the Hyde Park Barracks Stables. As part of these surveys, ventilation measurements were taken and schematics developed to present the full working condition of the existing installation.
HMS Sultan
Vida are developing designs to replace existing oil boilers with electric heating systems. This includes the existing listed Casemates and the Band Practice Room at HMS Sultan.
North Bristol Student Accommodation
The new 85-bed student accommodation scheme in North Bristol includes student accommodation, cycle storage, and a retail area, emphasising cost-effectiveness during construction and operation.
Red Brick Building, Glastonbury
Refurbishment project aimed at enhancing the energy performance and sustainability of the existing structure. Vida are providing mechanical, electrical, public health engineering, and sustainability services, including a feasibility study, energy modelling and electrical services performance design. The project focuses on meeting mandatory energy and carbon performance requirements while addressing the priorities and needs of the building's occupants and operators.
Baily's Building Stage
VIDA developed M&E designs for re-developing of two historic buildings into a vibrant hub for local start-up, small and growing businesses, educational groups and workshops. The project features central water-cooled heat pumps and water source heat pumps taking heat from the local watercourse.
Wells Cathedral School, Stage 1
Refurbishment of the Wells Cathedral School Stage arts department included the creation of a new courtyard and entrance doors alongside an optimised internal layout. Existing mechanical services were carefully rerouted to integrate with the exposed service design concept and new lighting and electrical services were implemented throughout the space.
NMITE Skillshub
The NMITE Skills Hub project encompassed the internal refurbishment and repurposing of the existing kitchen facilities as well as the design and construction of a new skills hub building which was integrated with the existing Edwardian structure. All services were designed to ensure that the spaces are adaptable and flexible to meet the diverse needs of both classes and the community. Vida delivered comprehensive mechanical, electrical, public health engineering, and sustainability services for the project.
Salisbury Cathedral
Vida produced heating feasibility report for Salisbury Cathedral to evaluate the proposed integration of a ground source heat pump system. The study will analysed the existing heating system, utility connections, and heat emitters, and provided recommendations for required modifications to ensure a successful transition to a sustainable, low-carbon heating solution.
HERE Studios
The reconfiguration of the 5-storey HERE Studios and its car park in Bristol is being undertaken with mechanical, electrical, public health, and sustainability engineering services provided by Vida Design. This project involves a complex reworking of the existing office space within the building, along with the construction of a new-build extension on the top floor.
Methodist Building, Totterdown
Vida conducted a comprehensive heating review for the Methodist Church in Totterdown, examining the heating options due to the existing gas-fired boiler system being at the end of its economic life. We performed a detailed analysis comparing heat pump systems versus infrared radiant heating.
